What’s the best local dish you’ve ever eaten while traveling?
I don’t travel much, and have only been in the U.S., so I have no exotic offerings. However, on my first trip to Chicago after my daughter moved there, I tasted a wonderful Chicago offering.
Deep dish pizza! If you’re not familiar with the Chicago deep dish, let me describe it to you. The crust is light and deep, not chewy, almost like a pastry. Right on top of that crust is a heavy layer of mozzarella cheese, topped next by your meat and vegetable choices, then covered with thick, chunky tomato sauce. It is heavenly!
Giordano’s and Lou Malnati’s are the most popular places to get deep dish pizza. I love both places.
If you are in Chicago, be sure to enjoy this local offering. You may also want to try a Chicago-style hot dog!
I have had both Giordano’s and Lou Malnati’s and others when living in the Chicago area. They were all delicious.

A lot of people believe Lou Malnati’s is the best, but I couldn’t tell a difference.
