Ted and Sue were getting ready to take their four year old, Stewart, to the park. Ted got the child dressed and Sue packed drinks and some light snacks.
“Okay, we are ready,” Ted said as Sue brought her bag to the front door. Sue looked the two of them over.
“Ted, your hair is more messed up than Stewart’s! I swear, you have the wildest hair.”
“You used to say that’s why you fell in love with me.” Ted retorted, pretending to be hurt.
“True, no one has hair quite as curly and free as yours,” Sue said, “but you could comb it once in awhile.”
“It is combed!” Ted said. He took Stewart’s hand, grabbed the bag of snacks, and headed for the park. Sue caught up, and linked her arm in his.
Stewart wanted to swing first, so Sue pushed him up into the air. She loved this time they spent together. It was like they were in a bubble. The world, even the other people, just seemed to disappear. When Stewart was done, she helped him down and he ran to the slides. Sue walked over to the picnic table where Ted was.
She burst out laughing. Ted had a bag over his head, and was sipping his drink under the paper bag with a straw.
Sue gently pulled the bag up and off. She smiled at Ted.
“There’s my handsome man,” she said and planted a big kiss on his lips. Ted was going to say something, but he decided to just enjoy the kissing for now. For good measure, Sue tousled his hair and sat in his lap. “I’m sorry,” she whispered in his ear.
Stewart started to run over to his parents for a drink, but when he saw them he felt like he may want to wait a few minutes. They were making out again. Ugh! Gross. All that kissing and still no little brother!
