Family trips involved Dad driving with
us squished in the back, sweating. Upon
arrival, Dad wanted the vacation to begin –
we wanted to primp. Dad always said
‘You’re tourists – who cares? Have fun!’
One day I realized he was right. We’re all just tourists.

Same here! I lost my dad too soon and feel so sorry for my kids who never met their grandfather.
You are welcome.

Isn’t it funny how as we grow older and into different roles we find out just how right our parents were.

It is so true! I have no memory of being truly embarrassed by my appearance, just the fun our family had ❤️

Maybe being a tourist is not the worst thing…. even tourists explore

I have come to believe we are tourists in this life. Ultimately, followers of Jesus believe our eternal home is heaven, so even this life is just a journey until we get home. It’s not a good analogy, because this life isn’t exactly a vacation (!) but you understand my meaning, I hope.

Yeah, and as visitors on this planet we’re not as well-behaved as we should be, hey?

Vacation is for relaxing (ideally) so I think your dad was on to something.

We only ever went on one vacation when I was a child- and all I remember about it was we went to Florida- and I had “tubes” in my ears and was not allowed to go in the ocean.
