I have worked in the justice system for nearly twenty-six years and I want to say so much, but if I say anything at all I could lose my job. And I need my job and I love my job. I try to help people. So crickets here.
crickets aren’t quiet
if there’s silence and crickets
no ones talking

Reena challenges us: This week, we explore the interplay between prose and poetry. Use one or both of these images as your inspiration — a blindfolded Lady Justice whose scales are tipped by money or a crumbling courthouse.
Write in either Prosimetrum or Versiprose form: both combine alternating passages of prose and verse.
- If the prose dominates, it’s Prosimetrum.
- If the poetry dominates, it’s Versiprose.
Find details on the format here.
Each poem I read only strengthens my theory that money and power rule over truth and honesty.

I think you just summed up what is wrong with today’s America in 48 words.

It’s like the elephant in the room.

Seems there is no refuge for the whistleblowers (as if there ever was). Justice has slipped her blindfold and placed it as a gag… Well done.

So many doing their best, and the only thanks they get is fear. I will thank you at least. (K)

No, I have misrepresented my situation I think. I have a good job and a wonderful boss. Everyone I work with is working hard to keep those levels of justice balanced. But there are many other people involved in the justice system. But to bad mouth anyone would be wrong.

Yes, not all are seeking justice for sure.

I feel the weight of what’s unsaid here, Lisa — the hum beneath the silence. I’m curious what part of the justice system you work in!

Public Defender’s office. And we aren’t the problem, but there are many other departments involved in criminal justice.
