When my youngest son was about 4 or 5 years old, he said something that has managed to reign supreme in the annals of our famous family quotes, and its my favorite. This child, Joseph, was often in trouble and often deflected or shifted focus when confronted about his behavior. So, it took a minute for me realize what he had said when he responded to my scolding. My daughter caught it right away and burst out laughing.
Me: scold, scold, scold
Joseph: Why don’t you just poke me with knives?
And a legend was born. Why don’t you just poke me with knives? Doesn’t that just say it all?
Have a poke-free day!

Once his response sunk in, the scolding stopped and I felt guilty. That kid was a master at deflecting! Haha

“Out of the mouths of babes…” or in reference to an old TV show “kids say the darnedest things.”I may have to steal this saying; it works for adults.
