Live Bullet

Bob Seger’s 1976 album “Live Bullet” had two great songs that were often combined into a wonderful medley, “Travelin’ Man/Beautiful Loser” that showcased amazing guitar work by Drew Abbott. Band members on this album were:
Bob Seger – vocals, guitar and piano
Drew Abbott – lead guitar, background vocals
Alto Reed – tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, percussion, background vocals
Robyn Robins – organ, piano, clavinet, Mellotron
Chris Campbell – bass guitar, background vocals
Charlie Allen Martin – drums, background vocals

Before the Eagles soared to massive success, Glenn Frey grew up in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area and was a close friend and collaborator of Bob Seger’s. Frey sang backup vocals and played acoustic guitar on Seger’s very first national hit, 1969’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”. The two remained lifelong friends until Frey’s passing in 2016. Bob Seger’s career began in 1961, but his big breakthrough was “Live Bullet” recorded live at Detroit’s Cobo Hall.

I remember arguing with someone about Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band after the album had come out. The guy I was talking to said that Bob Seger had no talent and played background music. I played this song for him and he had to eat his words. There was such energy and musicality in the songs on “Live Bullet” that it changed everything, and later that same year Seger came out with another great album, “Night Moves“. I have a soft spot for Bob Seger because my late husband was a big fan, especially of the song “Turn the Page” with its haunting saxophone.
