I am Adira, the mother of eight children that lived, grandmother to thirty-nine grandchildren and the widow of the man I loved the best I could – he drank to tamp his anger and to nurse the wounds he brought back from WWII, wounds on the inside of body and mind.
At my age, it seems I have seen so much that my brain is nearly full, and I have loved and held so many in my heart that it has begun to ache with some emptiness for all the ones that have gone on, so many are no longer here.
We bought an extra plot and we planted a garden on it to help feed ten mouths, and I have kept working this garden even though I am the only one left to feed – I give the bounty to neighbors, stay silent when little ones steal a pepper or carrot.
I’ve studied the Bible, tried to love God and man, reckon I know where I’m headed after this life – Jesus said he’d prepare me a place and if it wasn’t so, he wouldn’t ‘a said it – I am willing to stand before God now and take what I got comin’.
Hopefully, now I am a creation perfectly evolved to meet its own end – I don’t think I can become someone better and I hope I won’t become someone worse – I thank Jesus for the work He done in me and I hope He says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

That’s a great trail photo!

Thank you, Frank. It was early spring and the greens were surreal. 💚

Brilliant, some day maybe we will all meet and share our stories in the Kingdom of GOD.

Lisa, check you spam- I am sure I commented on this before and I do not see my comment here…
regardless- I absolutely love your character and the way she is at peace with who and what she is. What a blessing it would be if in our end days each of us could be so reconciled with ourselves and our actions.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful character with me!

No trouble- I just hate that my comment was so late in coming! I read your story soon after you posted it! but fortunately the link ended up in my spam- which is what brought my attention to there not being a comment from me….
