I was the eldest of four sisters – me, Cindy, Sharon and Diana. My sisters were my best friends, my worst enemies, my closest companions and my competition. We were far apart in age, so I was closest to my 2nd oldest sister, who was only two years younger than me. As we grew older, the gap in our ages didn’t matter. After our parents died, we realized how important our relationship was. Sharon moved away to Texas many years ago and was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. The rest of us flew out together to see her last December, and we had such a wonderful time. Sharon said ‘it was just like old times.’ I love my sisters.

Hello, beautiful poets! It’s Yvette again! Next week is my sister’s 50th birthday. While we have definitely had some trying times, especially during our childhood years, she is my absolute best friend. We talk every day and make every effort to spend time together at least once a month.
So this week, let’s focus on sisterly love. I realize that not everyone is blessed to have an amazing sister like I do, so for those of you who do not, broaden your idea of sisterly love. It could mean sisterhood, friendship, or support of all women. For this week, let’s focus on the idea of sisterly love or sisterhood. Find a syllabic poetry form that works for you, and let your inspiration flow.
“My sisters were my best friends, my worst enemies, my closest companions and my competition.”
A beautiful statement Lisa. Isn’t that the most honest definition of sisterhood? A beautiful mix of love, rivalry, chaos, and unbreakable connection. You’ve captured it perfectly.❤️

Beautiful haibun & photos, Lisa, that say so much of the bond between sisters. I didn’t have siblings but I imagine they know and/or understand more about you than most any other living beings. 🙂

I always felt bad about our daughter not having a sister, but she has two wonderful sister-in-laws and a lot of close friends, so she is not missing anything 🩷

I love this Lisa, the strongest bonds are those that share the good and the bad aren’t they, and time and distance is irrelevant, you just pick up where you left off… thank you for sharing the pics too 💞
