One Too Many

Daily writing prompt
What makes you nervous?

To be perfectly honest, really drunk people make me nervous. I am talking about a person who is inebriated to the point that their conversation is incoherent or terribly sad, they cannot walk without help and logic dictates that they will likely vomit soon. Since I don’t know what they are going to do, or which direction their poor mind is going to take (will they laugh uncontrollably or cry uncontrollably?) I become nervous. Thankfully, I haven’t been around a drunk person for a few decades, but I still recall how uncomfortable I felt.

Of course, the usual things that make most people nervous also make me nervous, too – such as speaking in front of a crowd, going out to dinner with someone I hardly know, cooking for a large group or tackling a new project at work. But really drunk people make me more nervous than any of those scenarios. I’m just weird, I guess.

      1. husband and I both have a certain amount of Indian heritage, and that usually signifies an inability to hold your liquor. He”s fine with beer, but im worthless with any amount.

  1. All overindulgences should make the hairs on the back of our necks bristle. However, we can and should be willing to forgive and help those who are suffering from them.

  2. People who insist that “oh go ahead and take a drink. for heaven’sSAKE don’t be such a baby. ” A neighbor at Xmas one year invited us to celebrate, and gave us both egg nog. I asked her quietly to not put anything in my husband’s because he cannot tolerate hard liquor. she laughed and gave him a stiff shot. By the time we left he was wasted, and we made the two mile trip home in about 5 mimutes, full throttle. I was terrified, he was drunk.
The point being, listen to what someone tells you. you may not agree, or believe it, but it’s not about you.
