The Boat

the boat motor growls
and gurgles as we move on
the choppy water – we bounce –
the boat pops, groans
as we race around the bend

Hi, this is Robbie, your host for this week’s #TankaTuesday challenge. This week, we’re writing poetry that includes onomatopoeia.

Onomatopoeia is a type of word, or the process of creating a word, that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests a sound that it refers to. Some examples are crash, bang, squeal, etc.

This week, I’m asking you to write a syllabic poem in any of the forms listed on this site using at least one onomatopoeia.

  1. Ah, reminders of glorious times for me – although once, with friends, their boat groaned and cut, we were five kms off shore and they had no flares etc. We drained the motor and all turned out well, I love the sounds you’ve evoked for me.
