Can You Tell Me How To Get

There is a song that haunts me. It will pop, unbidden in any way, into my head and begin playing. Once it has played all the way through, it will just begin again. And again. Its a song that probably has never affected anyone else the way it has me. When my oldest child, Jason, was two or three years old, I would only allow him one hour of television per day. He chose Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood and Sesame Street. So, every afternoon he watched those two shows until he started first grade. I quickly found that the theme song of Sesame Street ran in my head on a loop multiple days a week. To this day, I will realize I am humming it or singing it in my mind. For the last 38 years, it has been my own demon earwig.

The song was only one of hundreds of songs written for Sesame Street. The theme song was written by Joe Raposo.

Be careful if you listen to the song, what happened to me could happen to you (although I doubt it). You have been warned.

Sunny day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street?

Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street?
How to get to Sesame Street?
How to get to Sesame Street?
How to get to Sesame Street?

Jim Adam’s challenge: Last week we had Pondering Existential Thoughts where the theme was to find a song that makes you think about life. This week the theme is to find a song that that gets stuck in your head.
