Between the Earth and Sky

The sun on the snow is blinding
my boots squeak-crunch through the drifts
the world under my feet falls away

The frozen lake is calling to me
‘Come see my white sweep, stretching out’ –
the sun on the snow is blinding

Stepping onto the unwalkable world
Fish, turtles and beavers far below me
my boots squeak-crunch through the drifts

Crossing the lake, my mind tilts in wonder
I am between the earth and sky on this glacial surface
the world under my feet falls away
