Regrets in a Cup

I wish that I could have a simple cup of tea
just sitting with my mother beside the sea.
She always loved the ocean but rarely got to go.
A vacation together, I would have loved it so.
A thousand little visits, but not one girl’s trip,
I wonder if my mother would have really let it rip.
She was a redhead, and she had her secrets I know
My aunts have let a couple slip, but mostly I won’t know.
And now I’ll never have that cruise or cup of tea
Or see my mom with her hair down, a little wild and free.
