My Window Speaks

smudges of neglect
obscure the blue heaven sky
the lawn rolls out to the road
my land, my home, calls out for
more care than I can give her

  1. The feeling you express in your tanka is one I have often felt. Thank you.

I have a big yard with lots of trees, shrubs, and perennials, and I spend a lot of time trying to keep it up. Here’s a tanka I wrote on the subject of yard maintenance last December:

    there’s a lot of brown

    now that winter’s almost here

    I’ll miss all the green

though a rest from the struggle

    the onslaught of growing things
