he sailed into
the safe harbor, the boy-man
smelled of salt and sun
blood of sailors in his veins
wildness of sea in his heart
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yvette challenged us to write a tanka using a word with more than one meaning. I have chosen harbor.
Nicely done!
Thank you! I wrote it thinking of my husband. He used to sail in the San Francisco Bay, and he came from a long line of sailors. I didn’t know him then, but I wished I had.
