On My Knees

She wasn’t the most beautiful girl in the world, but she was to Greg. When he looked at Layla, all he could see was perfection. He was so in love with her that he obsessed about her all day long. If only he could make her see that he was her soul mate, then they could live together in happiness. She was all he wanted. Unfortunately, Layla was in a relationship with Henry, and she was in love with him. Little did she know, Henry was cheating on her! She thought Henry was wonderful, but he was really just awful, and he was taking advantage of her. Greg didn’t think he could keep quiet about it much longer. If she only knew the truth about Henry, she would surely leave him and see that Greg was perfect for her.

Greg had a plan. He would find Layla at her car after she got off work at the Burger Bin tonight. He would tell her what Henry was doing, and tell her how much he loved her. If he had to he would get on his knees and beg for her to understand that he couldn’t live without her any longer.

Eric Clapton wrote “Layla” about a English model and photographer and the wife of George Harrison, Pattie Boyd. Clapton was in love with Boyd and actively pursued her despite the fact that she was married. Boyd divorced Harrison in 1978 and married Clapton in 1979. She inspired other songs Clapton wrote, such as “Wonderful Tonight” and “Bell Bottom Blues.” She and Clapton divorced in 1989 due to his alcoholism and infidelity. The fact that Boyd was a muse to two incredible musicians is remarkable.

What’d you do when you get lonely
And no one is waiting by your side?
You’ve been running and hiding much to long.
You know it’s just your foolish pride.

Layla, you’ve got me on my knees.
Layla, I’m begging, darling, please.
Darling, won’t you ease my worried mind?

Tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool I fell in love with you
You turned my whole world up-side-down.

Layla, you’ve got me on my knees.
Layla, I’m begging, darling, please.
Darling, won’t you ease my worried mind?

Let’s make the best of this situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don’t say “We’ll never find the way”
And tell me that all my love’s in vain.

Layla, you’ve got me on my knees.
Layla, I’m begging, darling, please.
Darling, won’t you ease my worried mind?

Layla, you’ve got me on my knees.
Layla, I’m begging, darling, please.
Darling, won’t you ease my worried mind?

  1. Greg is never going to be able to swoop in and save Layla from cheating George as telling her about the infidelity would only break her heart. Nice story Lisa and a wonderful song that is always great to here. Thanks for joining in again.

  2. I can only say she must have been quite a woman to capture the hearts of two men who were not just musical giants …. they were also best friends who managed to stay that way for the remainder of George’s life. Everyone cheated and everyone managed to forgive. Remarkable story and fabulous song. Thanks, Lisa.

PS – I still have to log in every time I comment on your posts. I’m wondering if anyone else has mentioned having to do the same? It only happens consistently on your site.

      1. Someone just said the same thing about having to log in on my site whenever he comments. I don’t want anyone to have to do that; it’s annoying. I wrote to WP to see what I can do. Waiting to hear back from them. It looks like whatever you did worked. Tell me what you did, please!

      2. I went to settings, then Discussions then unchecked the box that said something like users must be registered and logged in. It was really simple. And I’m so glad it worked!

  3. That’s exactly what I did and when I arrived at the section with the box which says users must be registered and logged in ….. it was already unchecked! Go figure! Do you have to log in when commenting on my posts?

Good old WP, playing with our minds once again! 🤯
