Lake Tahoe in Remission

Pristine snow at 10,000 feet melts

to become deepest blue waters,

crystal clear in shades

of turquoise, cerulean dreams,

stone lined heaven, and you

and I are together,

you out of the white halls

and slow drips for a time

and half a time, and

we stand together, the beauty

overwhelming and I hold my breath but

time won’t stand still

and the snow keeps melting.

Poetics challenge: What I’d like us to do is to write a poem that conjures a view (whether from our travels or everyday life, whether from desire or experience) that is colored by the emotion of the moment.

  1. A visually stunning and evocative poem, Lisa. I love how the landscape becomes a metaphor for the change that time brings, as beautiful as those changes may be. The pristine becomes evocative of new love (“you out of the white halls”), and that “stone-lined heaven” shared by two. A wonderful poem.
