Platelets

Tumbling cell shards,

Clear as water, magically clotting

Your blood, were no longer there.

Bone marrow like a desert,

Like a broken engine unable

To produce the trifecta of life,

Red blood cells, white blood cells

And platelets, the vital flow.

Platelets are the Achilles heel of leukemia,

When they disappear,

Every scratch becomes a weeping,

Seeping rivulet that gains force

And will not relent.

Bleeding blood, the force of life,

I tried to staunch that flow.

I would have tried forever.
