Do you believe in fate/destiny?
I believe in Fate/Destiny but I also believe that our free will and our choices determine our future.
The best example that I have of this belief is the fact that I met the man who became my husband. I lived in Indiana, and he lived in California. At this time, there was no internet that was accessible to any normal person. No online dating. Neither of us were jet-setters. How could we have met? If I was a statistician, I would run the numbers, figure out statistically what the chances were of our meeting. What would it have been? One in a million? One in a billion?
He had made a series of choices that placed him in a certain place at a certain time. I had also made a series of choices, over a long period of time, and had also been subjected to a tragedy, and these things placed me in a certain place at a certain time. I could go over all of the decisions that I made that placed me in San Jose, California on the day I met him. But it isn’t a quick story. Suffice it to say that we met that day. And that was the day that started over 40 years of love and marriage.
It was fate that we met. It was my destiny to meet him, to love him, and to be loved by him. I don’t pretend to understand everything, but I believe that God brought us together, even though all of the choices that we made and all the things that happened to us made it possible for us to meet.
I’d say what society thinks of as destiny is a product of our environment and of our choices.

I am a strong believer in fate as well, that and when you stop looking, that’s when love will find you. I met my now husband after moving states. He let his mom’s dogs out and they ended up in my yard. Now it’s my favorite love story.
