Let It Be

The song “Let it Be” was released on May 8, 1970 on the Beatle’s twelfth and final studio album, about a month after the official announcement of the group’s public break-up. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney, and credited to both McCartney and John Lennon. “Let it Be” was also the Beatle’s final single, released on March 6, 1970.

I find the lyrics hopeful, and it seems that by saying “let it be”, the song is saying not to worry, that worrying won’t make a difference, and to try to hold onto hope. The lyrics “(a)nd when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me” speaks of looking for the positive in the midst of hard times.

Paul McCartney is on piano and lead vocals, George Harrison on guitar, John Lennon on bass, Ringo Starr on drums and Billy Preston on the organ.

Let It Be

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be, be

And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shinin’ until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

And let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
