Lake Swim

What activities do you lose yourself in?

It takes a while for the lake water to warm up so that it is comfortable to swim. The young ones don’t seem to mind the cold, but I like it warm yet refreshing.

I have swim belts, and when I swim I always wear one. They provide the perfect amount of a light lift and complete freedom of your arms.

Wearing my belt, I glide out into the water and begin to swim. I like to do the side stroke. I will float on my back, as long as I can keep my ears out of the water. (My ears do not like the lake water, they always get infected) I do a modified breaststroke, keeping my head above water. And sometimes I just float, and watch the boats go by or watch my grandchildren swim. This is an activity that I can completely lose myself in. I am not thinking about work, bills, sadness or anxiety, or what I must get done that week. I have no idea how much time is passing. It is very relaxing.

In the past, I would say that I could lose myself while cooking, or cleaning the house. If I am taking a familiar route, I could lose myself while driving. I can still lose myself while hiking, focusing on taking one step after another, admiring the scenery and keeping track of the dog.

Of these, I believe swimming is the activity that is the easiest to lose myself in. I’m looking forward to summer and swimming in our lake.
