Tomorrow – Audition

Sheila thought she could learn all she needed to know about acting by watching old silent movies. Her current favorite was the 1917 classic, “Cleopatra” with the vampy Theda Bara in the starring role. With no script to prop her up, Bara had to make the audience understand the plot and action of the movie by movement, gestures, facial expressions and her eyes. She looked into a large hand mirror at her reflection as she copied the expressions on Bara’s face while she watched the move. She was a great actress, greater than Theda Bara could ever be.

Sheila would sing along with Joe Cocker in the song “N’Oubliez Jamais” and dance around in her living room. She had to believe that she could ‘dance her own dance and never forget and sing her own song and never forget.’ She had to remember every emotion she had ever felt and let them wash over her. As she danced, she imagined that she was on a stage and she had to take the audience with her as she relived all the important moments in her life. She was an excellent dancer and singer, too, which would greatly aid in moving her career forward.

Sheila was ready. Her audition was tomorrow. She was poised to be discovered, adored, admired and paid real money for her craft. Tomorrow couldn’t come soon enough.

Theda Bara, in the 1917 movie, “Cleopatra”

N’Oubliez Jamais lyrics

Papa, why do you play all the same old songs?
Why do you sing with the melody?
‘Cause down on the street
Somethings goin’ on
There’s a brand new beat
And a brand new song

He said in my life, there was so much anger
Still I have no regrets
Just like you, I was such a rebel
So dance, your own dance and never forget

“N’oubliez Jamais”, I heard my father say
Every generation has it’s way
A need to disobey
N’oubliez Jamais, it’s in your destiny
A need to disagree
When rules get in the way
N’oubliez Jamais

Mamma, why do you dance to the same old songs?
Why do you sing only the harmony?
‘Cause down on the street
Something’s goin’ on
There’s a brand new beat
And a brand new song

She said in my heart, there’s a young girl’s passion
For a life long duet
And someday soon
Someone’s smile will haunt you
So sing your own song and never forget

“N’oubliez Jamais”, I heard my father say
Every generation has it’s way
A need to disobey
N’oubliez Jamais, it’s in your destiny
A need to disagree
When rules get in the way
N’oubliez Jamais

What is this game searching for love or fame?
It’s all the same one of these days you say that
Love will be the cure, I’m not so sure

“N’oubliez Jamais”, I heard my father say
Every generation has it’s way
A need to disobey
N’oubliez Jamais, it’s in your destiny
A need to disagree
When rules get in the way
N’oubliez Jamais

Don’t you ever forget
My love N’oubliez Jamais
Every generation has it’s own way to go
N’oubliez Jamais in its own
N’oubliez Jamais
N’oubliez Jamais page
Don’t you ever, ever forget it
N’oubliez Jamais
