The Many Nooks of You

I’d like to think I knew every nook and cranny of you.

I loved the crook your elbow made when bent and I could hook my arm with yours and place my hand on your forearm.

I loved to lay my head on your chest and then burrow my face into the nook of your neck, under your chin and ear.

I loved to lay with my front against your back, my nose pressed against the cranny between your head and your shoulders on your neck.

You were such a hairy guy, but I loved to stroke this little nook in front of your ear and behind your beard that was completely hairless and smooth as a baby’s cheek.

When you were feverish, I placed cold packs into the nooks behind your neck and under your arms and behind your knees to bring your temperature down.

You loved it when I climbed into your hospital bed with you, even though it made me uncomfortable, and you put your arm around me and I cuddled down into the cranny of your side.

All your nooks and crannies are in heaven now, and I can’t touch any of them.

But I remember them all.
