Moon and Sun

Moon on my shoulder

watching the sublime sunrise

fill the morning with

light and hope, new beginnings

wondrous warmth touches the earth.

“The moon is always jealous of the heat of the day, just as the sun always longs for something dark and deep.” —Alice Hoffman

The sun, having blazed,

falls behind the horizon

and glimpses the stars

scattered across the heavens

and the luminous moon.

Written for Tanka Tuesday – the Alice Hoffman quote from the Pioneer Woman

This week, I’d like everyone to write a tanka Puente, featuring a quote of your choice from the Pioneer Woman: 75 Best Moon Quotes That Mirror the Magic of the Sky HERE.

The magic happens between the two tanka poems and how the quote acts like a bridge between the poems. How does your quote enhance the meaning of your poem?

  • Write a tanka Puente using a quote from the directions above. If you write a freestyle poem, you must also include a tanka Puente per the instructions above.
  • #TankaTuesday does not accept AI-generated poetry.
  • Post your poem on your personal site/blog.
  • Include a link back to TankaTuesday.com in your post.
  • Copy the link of your published post into Mr. Linky. There are no recaps this year.
  • Remember to click the small checkbox about data protection.
  • Read and comment on some of your fellow poets’ work.
  • Like and leave a comment below if you choose to do so.
  • This challenge closes on the following Monday at noon EST Detroit, USA.
  • Have fun!
