The standard for behavior when I was a child was the “Golden Rule,” which stated
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
However, I recently heard that this is no longer considered a good standard for behavior because not everyone wants to be treated like ‘you’ would want to be treated.
The Bible says in Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly
To love mercy
And to walk humbly with your God?”
That seems like a good principle. I would also add these sub-principles:
Do Justly – Be honest; work hard; do good
Love Mercy – Be kind; don’t judge
Walk Humbly – Don’t think you’re better than anyone, because you’re not; listen to God because He’s a lot smarter than we are
If you’ve stuck with me this far, I thank you. Happy Monday.
