After a long winter’s hibernation, Brownie, the big brown bear, exited her cave eagerly. She was looking forward to the tastes and smells of spring. She found beauty everywhere. And there was also that big brown bear that was actively wooing her, Butch. Brownie and Butch had some good times, frolicking around the forest, but now Brownie was expecting and Butch was gone. She didn’t mind, she really enjoyed her solitary time and Butch was already fading from her memory. She was very busy foraging for food because her appetite increased with the pregnancy.
Brownie found an old log full of ants, and she feasted on the insects. Next, she ate some new vegetation and she found a dead deer after awhile, with some good meat still on the carcass.
Suddenly, she was sleepy and wanted to take a nap. She could go back to her cave, but it was much nicer out in the sunshine. Brownie saw some trees with beautiful pink flowers in the distance. She made her way to them, and then plopped down on her stomach, ready for sleep. While she slept and the breeze blew over her, Brownie dreamed of all the berries she would find in the late spring.
