Sadje asks us today on Sunday Poser:
How well do you adjust to change?
Since change is inevitable, the ability to adjust to change is necessary. I have resisted change and embraced change, but the way I reacted to change didn’t stop it from coming.
I recently heard a quote, “improvise, adapt and overcome.” It was credited to having originated with the Marines. That would be a good response to change. But that response doesn’t account for all the emotions that come into play when our life changes.
I have handled some big changes in my life graciously, others not so much. I’m old enough now to know there’s nothing I can do but accept the way things are and do my best to get used to the new normal. When life is in flux, it helps to have friends and loved ones to offer you their support. They can be your constant when life around you is changing. Your job can also act as a constant when your personal life is going through changes. The familiar action of going to work each day, doing the same things you have been doing, can offer some comfort.
Change never stops coming. God loves change, and you can see this in the natural world He created, which is constantly changing. Our bodies were created to change, too, moving through the stages of our life from infant to elderly.
