Having Fun

What’s the most fun way to exercise?

I don’t exercise, even though I should. I enjoyed hiking with my husband, but since he has passed away I have only walked a few times.

A couple of weekends ago, I went to visit my daughter who lives near Chicago, and my youngest son and his family joined us. On Saturday, we all went to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. We had a really wonderful time walking around all the floors of the museum and enjoying all the exhibits, many of which are hands-On. Afterwards, we went to an outdoor mall and my 12 year old granddaughter looked in a few of the stores for something cool to buy. We finished off the day with dinner and dessert at the Cheesecake Factory. It was a pretty perfect day. While we were at the mall, my daughter-in-law looked at her watch and said that we had walked over 12,000 steps so far that day, which is 5-6 miles!

We had been moving our bodies all day, and were thoroughly entertained and delighted while we did it. We were tired, there was no possible way we could ignore that we were walking all day, but it was a lot of fun. If I can have fun while I’m getting exercise, then I don’t mind exercising. It could be playing football or basketball with the grandkids, going on a long walk with family, or spending all day in a museum.

  1. I always enjoyed walking when I was playing golf, but now I take a golf cart and ride, but that is still pretty good exercise, as it is probably about 3 miles of walking, but that is spread out over a four hour period.
