She likes me better.
I think you’re wrong.
Then why does she take me to work with her every day?
She takes me every day now, too.
But she won’t once it gets warm outside.
Yes, but then she’ll still have me cold,
and she never makes you iced.
Yes, she’s missing out there,
only drinking me hot.
But she does like me better.
She only drinks you because she has to
or she’ll fall asleep at work.
She drinks me for pleasure.
She thinks I’m pleasurable, too!
She remarks that I’m delicious.
Well, she needs you, I’ll admit,
but she wants me and that’s why she likes me better,
and why I still think you’re wrong.
Here she comes,
I hope she’s thirsty.

Josie’s prompt guidelines
Inspired by Frank O’Hara’s “Metaphysical Poem” where nothing is decided and the talk itself becomes the drama…
Write a poem (up to 20 lines) as a conversation, text thread, or inner dialogue. Let the two voices go back and forth — negotiating, hesitating, contradicting — but never quite landing on a plan. Play with repetition and everyday details to build tension and show who these people are. Slip in small observations that make the moment feel real. And when you get to the end… leave it unresolved.
The morning beverage talks back! This is very clever.

Lol… a most believable conversation. I think my cold brew actually gets more love.. at least I find myself talking to it from the first sip lol. That sigh of appreciation, as thought it can hear me 🤣
Happy New Year, Lisa.
