Number Seven
on the back of her jersey
as pitches thrown with
precision fly from her hand;
Number Seven
on the back of her jersey
as the ball bouncing down the court
finds its way to her for a dunk;
Number Seven
on the back of her jersey
as she serves the ball and
spikes it over the net;
Number Seven is her number
but luck has nothing to do with her skill

*My granddaughter plays many different sports and has been Number Seven in every sport for so long that everyone knows it is her number!
Written in response to Mish’s challenge as host of Poetics
I have never thought it good to tell good luck for someone in a sports game…. skill should be enough.

You’re very welcome. Kids need to be surrounded by love as a protective barrier.

Very nice Lisa! Lucky number for her, but we know being good at sport is a matter of training again and again with passion.
