pastel layers of colors like smoke expand
over the deep water’s blue
and the sunrise, soft as a sigh with the pigments
of dreams break over our hearts
and then sing of the coming sun
the trees inhale as the new day
is divided, the world is shifting
and gentle fingers of light reach for us

Ange is our host of Wea’ve Written Weekly. We are invited to write an ekphrastic poem—a poem inspired by a work of art in no more than 15 lines and must incorporate the word “blue” into the poem.
Perfect Lisa.

Lisa, your “gentle fingers of light” really stayed with me—such a tender way to end the piece. The whole poem feels like a soft exhale into morning.
