I turn
to my window
to the show
on emerald lawn
wild turkeys run
long necks stretched like a cartoon
beaks leading
tiny chicks quick
a squirrel jets
up a tree
a swallow swoops
fast and low
my dog
contemplates
lies down
watches

Look at them go! Adorable.

Lisa, watching out of the window beats any TV. So cute with the babies following behind š

There has been a lot of action in my yard lately, so that keeps it interesting. I love the addition of the wild turkeys.

I really like how your dog becomes part of the stillness after all that motion, Lisa. The poem winds down so gentlyāit feels like a shared pause between observer and observed.

What a terrific photo! Yes, cartoon like. I love how you wrap this detail rich poem up with the indifferent dog.

We don’t have wild turkeys but our back yard stretches the length of eleven townhomes. Lots of wildlife, so much fun to watch. My only regret? It is fenced high enough that deer are unable to enter. Which would make it perfect! Great write, Lisa.

I love how you capture the movement (squirrel jets – neat), an endearing poem and a reminder about the best show on earth.
