Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?
Mom called it goulash, but I have come to find that goulash means something different to nearly everyone. Mom would combine browned ground beef, cooked elbow macaroni, and cut up tomatoes, and put a cheese sauce over the whole thing. It was absolutely delicious and I loved it. I fixed it for my children on a regular rotation while they were at home, and I fixed it for many years afterwards. One bite takes me back to Mom’s kitchen and the bar we always ate informal family meals at. Goulash sounds pretty good right now.
That is actually called American Goulash, or American Chop Suey, but it does have other names like Johnny Marzetti, Slumgullion, or Beefaroni.

My family would have loved calling it Slumgullion! Thank you, Jim.

We called it Marzetti but I agree with it being a childhood comfort food.

It’s probably too late for this old dog to learn a new trick and call it something different. So yes, goulash it is LOL
