Allison’s mother sat at the table and leaned on her elbows, looking up at Allison. She smiled thinly, and Allison smiled brightly back.
“So you baked?” she asked.
“Yes! I baked an apple pie. I even made the crust myself. And I want you to try it. I think it is going to be really good,” Allison said.
Allison cut a generous slice of pie, put it on a plate and thrust the plate in front of her mother.
Taking up her fork, Allison’s mother realized she didn’t trust Allison’s optimistic opinion about the pie. No one bakes a great pie the first time, she thought.
Allison watched with anticipation as her mother cut a bite and put it in her mouth. She watched as her mother chewed slowly, then laid the fork down on the plate.
“That is probably the best pie I have ever had,” her mother said, and Allison let out a loud whoop! “Sit down and have a piece with me. You are amazing, you know that, Allison?”
Allison felt both proud and relieved. She did it!

Thanks for joining in Lisa. Loved this. Reminds me of a victoria sponge I made for my Mum which was absolutely perfect, and the best I’ve ever made. I put it down to using butter (EXPENSIVE!) rather than margarine and also it was made with love because it was for my Mum!

I am so happy her mom liked it. I was really afraid of what she might say if she didn’t. Nicely done!
