In A Fog

I came home from work yesterday and the fog was heavier than I’ve ever seen it. I went down to the lake to take some pictures.  Henry, our blue heeler, accompanied me with much enthusiasm.  Honestly, Henry is the most enthusiastic dog I know.  Always happy, energetic and loving.  And Henry discovered ice on the lake.  He’s only 9 months old, and we got him when he was 5 months old, so this has been his first winter.  We have a neighbor across the cove who has a dog, Buster.  Apparently, after watching my husband Billy walk on the ice, and then seeing Buster out there, Henry screwed up his courage and played on the ice with Buster.  Sorry, I digressed there a bit. The ice on the lake was patchy and mostly gone, so Billy was worried Henry might try to leap out onto the water, thinking he would land on a thick crust of ice. I admonished Henry to stay on the deck, and wondered, ‘Would this be the time he doesn’t mind me?’  He usually minds, but…  Thankfully, he complied.  Disaster averted (cold, wet, confused and scared puppy disaster).  I feel like God was talking to me in that lesson.  He says, trust me when I gently lead you NOT to do so something.

Only God knows what is under the ice, what’s behind the fog. What lies ahead is hidden, but I have family, a job, a home and my God and I’ll take it one step at a time.  And Spring is closer each day.
